Movie theaters have been enjoying a resurgence this summer and right as I thought we'd see a slowdown coming off of Thor: Love and Thunder, Jordan Peele's new horror film Nope came out swinging during its opening weekend.

According to Deadline, Nope's opening weekend take of $44 million ended up being better than other original IP's like Elvis or Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The new horror film follows two siblings running a ranch plagued by a deadly and mysterious presence in the clouds above. Where The Crawdads Sing saw a steep drop off going into its second weekend, but it was Thor: Love and Thunder that was the weekend's biggest loser as the colorful Taika Waititi directed film saw its earnings fall 50% from last weekend.

This is looking like your last chance to go see Top Gun: Maverick as its meant to be watched....at the theaters of course! This is NOT the movie to go "I'll just wait and stream it." Some movies are made for the big screen and Maverick is undoubtedly one of them.

Without further ado, here are the top 5 movies in theaters over the weekend:

#1 - Nope - $44 million

#2 - Thor: Love and Thunder - $22.1 million

#3 - Minions: The Rise of Gru - $17.7 milliom

#4 - Where The Crawdads Sing - $10.3 million

#5 - Top Gun: Maverick - $10 million
